Serious offenders

Corrective Services Sex & Violent Offender Therapeutic Programs (SVOTP) offers a range of assessment and treatment services for sexual and violent offenders both in custody and under supervision in the community.

Sex and Violent Offender Therapeutic Programs staff provides the following services for sexual and violent offenders throughout their sentence:

  • Assessment of risk, needs and treatment suitability within custody and the community to assist in the case management of sexual and violent offenders
  • Assessment and advice regarding complex sexual and violent offenders including those who may be subject to an order under serious offender legislation.
  • The delivery of a large range of best practice and innovative treatment programs for sexual and violent offenders in custody and in the communit.
  • Peer consultation with CSNSW psychologists preparing pre-sentence assessments for sentencing authorities/courts and State Parole Authority reports to inform release.

Programs

The range of Sex and Violent Offender Therapeutic Programs for offenders serving a custodial sentence includes:

  • Violent Offenders Therapeutic Program (VOTP) for higher risk/needs violent offenders
  • Self-Regulation Program: Violent Offenders (SRP:VO) for violent offenders identified as having a cognitive impairment
  • Custody-based VOTP Maintenance and Outreach for those convicted of a violent offence who have completed CSNSW Violent Offender Therapeutic Program in custody
  • High Intensity Sex Offender Program (HISOP) for those high risk and high needs offenders convicted of a sexual offence
  • Moderate Intensity Sex Offender Program (MISOP) for those with average risk and needs offenders convicted of a sexual offence
  • Self-Regulation Program: Sexual Offenders (SRP:SO) for sexual offenders identified as having a cognitive impairment
  • Deniers program for men convicted of a sexual offence who categorically deny the offence or maintain that they were wrongfully accused or falsely identified

The range of Sex and Violent Offender Therapeutic Programs for offenders serving a community based order or in the community on parole under the supervision of CSNSW includes:

  • Community-based Sex Offender Programs treatment groups average-high risk/needs sexual offenders
  • Individual risk management intervention for high risk/needs sexual and violent offenders
  • Community-based maintenance groups for offenders who have completed CSNSW Sex Offender Programs
  • Community-based VOTP Maintenance and Outreach for violent offenders who have completed CSNSW VOTP in custody
