Dawn de Loas Correctional Centre

Dawn de Loas Correctional Centre is a minimum-security correctional centre for male offenders located 21 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD. It is located on the Silverwater Correctional Complex which also includes, Silverwater Women's Correctional Centre and the Metropolitan Remand & Reception Centre (MRRC).

The bus stop closest to the centre is located on Holker St (near Avenue of Africa) in Silverwater.

Private transport

If you are travelling via private transport, please note that visitor parking is very limited. Allow plenty of additional time to find parking.

In-person social visits

COVID-Safe in-person visits will look different to the way they did before. All safety measures are designed to reduce risks and keep our staff, inmates and visitors safe.

New COVID-safety measures apply to in-person visits, make sure you know the rules before you book.

In-person social visits bookings

Visits must be pre-booked by calling the Visits Booking Line on (02) 9289 5802.

The Visits Booking Line is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30am till 11:30am

In-person visits take place on Saturday and Sunday (no Public Holidays):

Video visits

Video visits were introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to help inmates maintain contact with family and friends. Due to the popularity and positive response to this service we will continue to provide video visits as well as in-person visits.

While the risk of COVID-19 remains high we strongly encourage the use of video visits to reduce the risk and help keep everyone safe.

Video visits will take place on Saturday only (no video visits on Sunday and Public Holidays) at:

• 08:00am - 08:40am
• 08:50am - 09:30am

Legal visits

• Legal practitioners can visit seven days a week: Monday to Friday between 8:30 am to 11:30am, and Saturday or Sunday 8:15am to 11:30am or 12:15pm to 2:45pm.
• All legal visits are non-contact (box) visits.
• Please fax a request for your legal visit to (02) 9289 5287 at least 24 hours before visiting.

Conditions of entry

Appropriate dress standards

The visits area is a family environment. You must dress appropriately. This generally means clothes must be respectable and not too provocative.

You cannot wear anything that hides your face, except for religious reasons. In that case you will be asked to remove your face covering temporarily so staff can verify your identity.

Inappropriate dress (PDF, 419.1 KB) includes:

• Clothes that have possibly controversial logos, words or slogans such as:
  • Motorcycle gang 'colours' or gang insignias
  • Logos or symbols associated with drugs or drug paraphernalia or swear words
• Tight or revealing clothing including:
  • Tops and dresses that expose the stomach or chest
  • Swimsuits or skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh
  • Mesh or other "see-through" clothes
  • Clothes that are excessively dirty, ripped or frayed
• Heels higher than 5 centimetres
• Any jewellery other than a plain wedding band, sleepers and studs. This means no engagement ring or any other ring with stones, and no bracelets or necklaces
• Tops or jumpers with a hood
• Hats, scarves or head coverings (excluding religious wear)
• Hair scrunchies or clips. Only single elasticated hair ties are allowed
• Watches, smart watches or activity trackers
• Bare feet.
