Greyhounds as Pets

Greyhounds as Pets is a joint venture between Corrective Services NSW and Greyhound Racing NSW. It was established to re-home greyhounds which are no longer included in the racing circuit.

Retired greyhounds make excellent pets because of their warm and affectionate nature.

The goal for GAP is to find responsible, caring and loving permanent homes for these hounds.

For the inmates at the Dillwynia Correctional Centre who have been selected to work in the GAP program and socialise, train, exercise and care for these greyhounds, this is an opportunity to gain valuable vocational skills to increase their opportunities for employment once released from custody.

The inmates are required to complete nationally recognised qualifications in animal care and welfare.
