Working with Female Offenders Workshop

Course overview

This workshop is designed to enhance learner awareness of the unique needs of female offenders. It aims to strengthen capabilities in effectively engaging with and supporting this population.

The workshop has been developed through interagency consultation and review of national and international research.

Course outcomes

Learners will;

  • Be equipped with the knowledge and resources to address the specific needs of females in custody and the community
  • Develop an understanding of trauma and its impact on female offenders and how to apply trauma-informed approaches in daily interactions
  • Gain insight into the mental health challenges experienced by women in custody, along with the unique parenting responsibilities and family dynamics that influence their rehabilitation
  •  Explore the profile of a female offender, including pathways to offending and understanding how gender specific factors shape experiences in the criminal justice system. 

Entry requirements

Open to all Corrective Services NSW staff who interact with female offenders as part of their role.
