Commissioner's International Scholarship

The Commissioner's International Scholarship (Scholarship) was established in 2009 and promotes learning between Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) and its counterparts in Asia and the Pacific region in partnership with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Scholarship aims

CSNSW contributes to the Scholarship by providing the following to the successful candidates:

• One-week program designed to enhance leadership capabilities in corrections and engage in collaborative and comparative analyses of current and emerging issues in correctional systems and practices across different jurisdictions.
• One-week participation in the Australian Correctional Leadership Program (ACLP), a program designed for senior managers from across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
• A space to build professional networks with diverse participants.

Nominations

The Scholarship is awarded to applicants who have achieved distinction in correctional management and/or correctional research in their own country. 

Applicants must prepare a written application explaining how they meet the selection criteria. 

It is open to all correctional administrators in the region who meet the selection criteria below. 

Selection criteria

• Must be current employees within a correctional agency in Asia or the Pacific region.
  
• A statement duly signed by Chief Executive/Agency Head that the applicant will be available to travel to Australia and undertake the program in its entirety.
  
• Hold a senior management position in the corrections industry with significant leadership responsibilities (for example, managing a correctional centre, regional office, or a business unit).
  
• Effective communication skills, including a good command of the English language, both orally and in writing.
  
• Proven capacity to influence strategic policy within their own organisation.
  
• Demonstrated commitment to their own professional development.

Once all written applications are received, a selection panel will short list these applications. Short listed applicants may be interviewed, and successful candidates will then be advised of the outcome.

All other applicants will be notified by email from the International Programs Unit (IPU).

Scholarship cost

The Scholarship provides services in-kind to the value of approximately AUD$5,000 (excluding GST) per person. These in-kind services cover the course fee, accommodation, meals, and administrative support. 

CSNSW does not cover airfares, visa application fees, insurance and spending money.
