Correctional Officers in New South Wales play a pivotal role in the criminal justice system by providing safe, secure and humane management of inmates in correctional centres.
The Custodial Training Unit is responsible for entry level training for correctional officers and also offers a range of short courses for more experienced officers and staff of CSNSW working in custodial settings.
The Custodial Training Unit is based at the Corrective Services NSW Academy at Eastwood, with our weapons and officer survival training facility on the Windsor complex. We deliver courses at correctional centres and other locations on request.
All training staff at the Custodial Training Unit have industry training qualifications as well as extensive correctional centre experience. We provide course participants with the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to work with offenders in reducing their offending behaviour and therefore contribute to a reduction in recidivism.

We acknowledge Aboriginal people as the First Nations Peoples of NSW and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future.
Informed by lessons of the past, Department of Communities and Justice is improving how we work with Aboriginal people and communities. We listen and learn from the knowledge, strength and resilience of Stolen Generations Survivors, Aboriginal Elders and Aboriginal communities.
