The Acting Commissioner

Kevin Corcoran joined Corrective Services NSW as Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Corrections, in January 2014, and continued in this role until his appointment as Acting Commissioner, commencing 1 August 2021.

Kevin began his corrections career as a trainee superintendent in South Australia in 1984 and was one of the last managers of the maximum-security Adelaide Gaol before it closed in 1988 and became a museum.

Kevin was deputy manager of South Australia’s Yatala Labour Prison from 1987 to 1991, before being promoted to general manager, in which role he served for three years.

He was appointed director, custodial corrections for the Queensland Corrective Services Commission in 1994, then executive director, operations, with Queensland Corrections in 1997.

Kevin then transitioned to the private sector, working as managing director of Corporate Risk Solutions for 14 years, when he gained extensive senior executive experience and knowledge in corrections. He specialised in security risk assessments and advice; crisis management advice and preparation; and advised Federal, State and international governments on the design and operation of adult corrections, juvenile detention and immigration detention facilities, strategic infrastructure planning, and international hostile environment deployments. He also provided services on installation, maintenance and training in the use of security transmission x-ray body scanners.

Kevin’s professional focus is on staff culture, support and communications, and reducing reoffending.

He was a member of the Australian Defence Force Reserve Infantry from 1982 to 1994 and retired as a Captain in the 1027 Royal South Australian Regiment.

In his spare time, Kevin enjoys painting and motorbike racing.
