There's nothing wrong with doing life in Junee

13 February 2026

You could waste years searching for the kind of life that’s already waiting for you in the Riverina region: a secure career, wide-open spaces, and a community that feels like home. Junee Correctional Centre offers the kind of ‘life sentence’ people want - one filled with purpose, opportunities for career progression, and the freedom of country living.

A meaningful career with room to grow

A career at Junee Correctional Centre offers stability, professional development, and pathways across Corrective Services NSW. Staff are guided by experienced leaders, and backed by an organisation committed to community safety and reducing re‑offending.

There’s something for everyone, from frontline correctional officers and case managers to overseers, psychologists and administrative staff, supported by a strong team culture and experienced leadership.

Governor Troy Seychelles is the first to challenge the idea that the job is all about being “big and tough”.

“People often think we’re looking for big, tough officers, but what we really need are real people. We want people who can be empathetic, firm when it’s required, and fair with everyone,” he said.

“Junee has a great culture and I’m proud to lead staff who genuinely want to serve their community.”

That culture is lived every day by the staff who support the inmates and look out for one another. Senior Correctional Officer Ali Ford is one of them.

“I wanted a challenge and I thought a career in corrections would be interesting,” she said.

“No two days are the same. Some days are tough, but there are plenty of good ones too. We have a strong sense of community in this centre and always look out for each other. My family are really proud of what I do, and so am I.”

The freedom you gain in Junee

When you're not at work, Junee gives you the space to slow down, relax, and breathe. Here, you’ll find affordable housing, short commutes, quiet streets, and schools overflowing with ideas instead of overcrowded classrooms. It’s a place where you can build the life you’ve imagined.

Many staff come to Junee looking for a lifestyle change, and they quickly find themselves welcomed into a supportive, close-knit community. For First Class Correctional Officer Darren Robertson, the move from Sydney offered a slower pace, a better environment, and a team that made him feel he belonged from day one.

“I moved here for a bit of a change of scenery from Sydney, and I’ve felt supported and included from the start,” he said.

“The move has been fantastic. Great weather, no traffic and a team with all kinds of professional backgrounds. Having some life experience and an open mind really helps with the clientele we work with.”
